Wait, What Is That In My Yard?
It's the spookiest time of the year again, and yesterday we received our first Halloween scare. But it wasn't from costumed kiddos or creepy jack-o-lanterns...it was from monsters invading our home!
I walked out on our porch to find 3 of these guys.
Whoa! That is a creepy caterpillar! Look at those spikes. He's even Halloween colored.
I was a little concerned, because these things look deadly! So I did a little research and came across this caterpillar identification guide from animalsake.
The Passion Butterfly? That name sounds so much sweeter than they look! I was relieved that they weren't dangerous to humans, and that those spikes don't poke!
I looked around the porch and found that some of them had started creating cocoons...in fact, about 12 cocoons are hanging from our patio chairs!
Now I absolutely had to see what these monsters would become. So I searched for Passion Butterflies.
They are beautiful! I can't believe our backyard has become a nursery for these Halloween colored beauties! Maybe it is time for us to buy a butterfly feeder.
So what do you think? Are these caterpillars creepy or cool? Let me know in the comments!
